At SMI we’re also passionate about the environment. Our work in the energy sector is helping to deliver more sustainable programmes for managing the demand for power.
As one of our core values is focused on being an ethical business, our work over several years on an Environmental Management Plan has been pivotal to our operations. In 2019 we formalised this into accreditation against the ISO 14001:2015 standard. We also appointed Catherine Jennings as Head of Sustainability in addition to her other roles within the business, to create more focus and energy behind our efforts to deliver a truly sustainable business.
In 2020 our business plan places equal weight on sustainability as every other function in the organisation and is front and centre of our key plans.
We measure our carbon footprint and are all looking for ways in our day to day business lives to improve our sustainability across our business operations and products. For instance, among many other initiatives, all our own energy now comes from 100% green sources, we’ve reviewed our travel policies to encourage staff to go green, have improved our waste and recycling activities, switched to video conferencing for many of our internal and external meetings and have moved to recycled paper where printing is unavoidable.
